Reinholdt “Reiny” Meter, 97, of Gering, died Monday, June 19, 2017 at his home. His Celebration of Life service will be held at 10am on Saturday, June 24, 2017 at Gering Zion Church with Pastors Tim Hebbert and Ted Meter officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery in Gering. Viewing will be Friday at Jolliffe Funeral Home from 4-7pm. The family respectfully requests that in lieu of any flowers, memorials in Reiny’s honor be made in care of Gering Zion Church or Community Christian School Foundation. Reiny was born southeast of Bayard on September 18, 1919 to Henry and Lena Roth Meter. He attended various country schools, mostly District 24, and Bayard High School. He married Ruth Gantz on January 14, 1940. Together they farmed different farms throughout the valley. To this union, 3 children were born; Marlene, Rick and Brad. In 1947, Ruth’s sister passed away in childbirth and her baby daughter, Carol Mae came to live with Ruth and Reiny until she was 3years old. She has always been a part of their family.
In 1956, Reiny took a mail order course in electronics from United Television Laboratories. In 1964, he retired from farming and went to work at Classic Bowling Lanes in Gering for 2 years. In 1965, he went to AMF Bowling Mechanics School in Chicago. In 1966, they moved to Denver and he went to work for Celebrity Sports Center, which at the time was owned by Walt Disney. Reiny was the mechanic for the 80 lane facility and in addition helped take care of 300 pin ball machines. He worked there for 28 years. In 1994, Reiny retired and they moved back to Gering. On December 6, 2007, Ruth passed away.
He is survived by his daughter Marlene (Wilbert) Ruppel, sons Rick (Judy) Meter and Brad (Cindy) Meter, and daughter Carol Mae (Roger) Broadbent; grandchildren Debra (Stan) Stobel, DeeAnn (Joe) Stricker, Shelly (Jeff) Martischewsky, Traci Meter, Keryl (Loren) Giesler, Heidi (Todd) Robertus, Chris Meter, Eric (Jenifer) Meter, Stacy (Schuyler) Powell, Stephanie (Tim) Rouzee, Jamie (Kelly) Broadbent and Natacha (Andres) Vrsalovic; 27 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; brothers Henry Meter, Ted Meter, Robert Meter, and Richard Meter; sisters Minnie Carter, Paulyne Langhofer, Betty Rupp and Dar Robertus.
His parents, wife Ruth, and sisters Lydia Bangert, Elsie Harimon and Marie Miller all preceded him in death.
