L Austin Genoways, 73 of Bayard, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday August 9, 2016. His memorial service will be Saturday August 13th at 10:00 am at Faith United Church of Christ in Bayard with Pastor Tom Smith officiating. Inurnment will be held at a later date in Fort Calhoun Cemetery with Susie. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Austin's honor can be made in care of the family to be designated at a later time. Austin was born in Aurora IL on July 16, 1943 to Lynn and Hannah (Beales) Genoways. He grew up east of Bayard on the family farm. He graduated from Bayard High School in 1961. He later married Cheryl Sauer in 1966 2 sons were born from this union Jeff Genoways and Jon Genoways, they divorced in 1968. He then married Susie Miller on July 12 1969 in Council Bluffs, IA 2 daughters were born to this union, Julie Hammack and Lynn Genoways. They moved to Bayard in 1973 where he initially drove truck for Hewitts. He worked briefly as a farm hand for the Anest brothers and then for Gus Pappas for 13 years. He worked for over 20 years at Farmers Irrigation and retired from there to go on and work for Chimney Rock Irrigation District until his death.
He is survived by daughters Julie (Pat) Hammack of Gering and Lynn Genoways of Omaha; sons Jeff (Sharon) Genoways of Fort Calhoun and Jon (Sidney) Genoways of Fort Calhoun; brothers David Genoways and Douglas Genoways of Fort Calhoun; sisters Phoebe Zeigler of Tekamah, Cathy Genoways of Fort Calhoun and Mary (Lawrence) Scott of Blair; brother in law David (Susie) Miller of Fort Calhoun; sister in law Patty Miller of Omaha; sister in law Patty Genoways of Broadwater; grandsons LCPL Kaleb Hammack currently stationed at Marine Corp Air Station in Yuma, Arizona , Mitchell Hammack & Dylan Hammack of Gering, Joe Genoways, Jacob Genoways and Sam Genoways; granddaughters Sarah Genoways, Kelsey Genoways, Madison Genoways and Grace Genoways all of Fort Calhoun; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father Lynn Genoways, mother Hannah Genoways, brother Wallace Genoways, wife Susie Genoways and grandsons LCPL Jabe Hammack and Seth Hammack.
Austin will be greatly missed by so many; especially the folks he brought weekly flowers and goodies!
